Project Description

Fun With Film – Interested in shooting film?

A new date and location for this workshop will be announced soon.

Fun With Film – Interested in shooting film?

Maybe you have an old film camera and a desire to approach some of your image making once again, without the intensive menu based and technology focused route digital capture can be?

You may have picked up one of the numerous high-quality film cameras that today are available at the most amazing bargain prices as your first film camera?

Or do you just wish to get back to the basics of image making, using film as a foundation to refocus and enhance your digital capture capabilities also? Or simply to enjoy something different – pleasure in the process and all that?

Well the news is good, over recent decades film shooting went from being the norm, to having a predicted and near complete demise. But in reality it has again created for itself a niche following of some very talented photographers.

This crash course seminar offers those beginning film shooting to the seasoned photographer wishing to have an update, a wonderful foundation to explore this alternative image making means based around todays options.

We bring you up to speed about what is available and where, plus a host of the trips for processing and more.

As a photographer who over the decades, has shot countless rolls of film and has a technical background in photography, I understand and still appreciate the characteristics and skills of shooting emulsion based pictures.

It can be lots of creative fun!

  • Today’s film choices – a look at and suggestions for interesting films available today based on their characteristics. Including Black and White and Colour negative film, and Transparency (positive) film.
  • The various film formats and how to handle them.
  • Processing – the choices including ‘push & pull’ and cross processing effects.
  • Viewing images.
  • Outputting as prints.
  • Digitisation – get the film images into the digital domain for further manipulation and viewing. What are the options – something for various budgets.
  • Storage.

Thought I would just send your some feedback on the event I attended today at Calumet Drummond Street. Amazing. Apart from being a great photographer, John has the ability to teach too, able to convey complex issues in a clear and understandable way, which obviously requires great understanding of the subject matter. The structure and pace of the course was excellent, allowing time for questions whilst covering essential information during the day . Can’t believe I learnt so much in one day. And as a bonus John is such a kind, friendly guy whose enthusiasm is infectious. Well done Calumet for holding this seminar. Rating for course 10/10 – could not have wished for more in one day

Thanks for a great day today. You had a great team there and the location was top class – I am sure I could spend a full week there and not exhaust all the potential shooting options …… and it goes without saying it was great to be able to call upon your knowledge and experience to both qualify my personal learning and also expand my knowledge and ideas through your insight

Just a quick email to say a big thank you for all your hard work yesterday. It was just as you promised, a very interesting and rewarding day and whilst I haven’t had time to do more than unload the pictures to my PC, I have high hopes that there are some great ones there.  I really appreciate all the energy and enthusiasm you put into these courses and I hope that I will be able to retain all the knowledge!

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed today’s workshop. John Clements was both engaging and informative and his relaxed style made everybody feel at ease and make the most out oftheir seminar experience. I had some doubts whether I would benefit much from the workshops, however within the first 5 minutes I soon realised that Johns experience and teaching skills was highlighting top-tips and important camera craft that will take my photography to another level.
